The Villages is a pilot program of the Vashon Senior Center.
In keeping with the Center's mission to
enrich the lives of older adults, Vashon Villages

  • are self-directed by Village members
  • provide affordable, practical, volunteer-provided services that support members to live independently
  • create opportunities to connect and engage through member-informed events, programs, and activities
  • make positive impacts on members' health, in the spirit of interdependence

The COVID-19 pandemic persists, but we're excited about the possibilities of the Vashon Villages—and we hope you are, too! Get in touch about how you can participate as a member or serve as a volunteer—or both.

The Vashon Senior Center acknowledges that its Villages program is situated on the ancestral lands of the sx̌ʷəbabš, the native people who lived on Vashon-Maury Islands for thousands of years. We are mindful that the sx̌ʷəbabš were forced from their ancestral home here and that their relationship with this place continues to the present day.

How did we get here?
In 2020, the Senior Center...

  • received a grant from King County to explore the need and potential for—and the interest in—establishing so-called "Virtual Villages" on Vashon
  • hired a Program Manager
  • enlisted Community Assessment team volunteers, local folk who facilitated our Community Assessment Survey work
  • conducted the Assessment so that we could learn from seniors living in three pilot neighborhoods what needs and assets were perceived to exist in these neighborhoods
